Go karting is awesome. However, it’s important to make sure that you are safe. While the large bumpers and helmet that you wear make it seem safe enough, you’ll soon realise that this is not always the case. If you take a glance at the tips below, you’ll be much safer while driving:
- There is no need to bring your own equipment. Some tracks won’t let you use your own equipment, and will only let you use theirs. Which is fair enough, since there is no need for you to show off with a custom airbrushed helmet when the standard track helmets are perfect for the job.
- At many go karting tracks, there is a restaurant of sorts, which usually serves hot dogs, pizza, burgers and beer. Wait until after your race before you decide to drink any beer, or any alcohol for that matter. Drunk driving is bad enough, but add racing go karts into the mix, and you’ll soon realize it’s not worth it.
- Don’t keep the gas pedal on the floor when going around a corner; this can easily end up in a pretty large crash, and it’s not even efficient! To go around a corner properly, all you need to do is slow down slightly. Just tap the brakes, and then accelerate as you come out of the corner, building up the RPM.
If you follow these tips, you’ll be much safer. Go karting is designed to be fun for all ages, if you don’t think a certain maneuver is safe, then don’t risk it – wait a few seconds longer until you can go for the classic overtake.
